Can I use a splitter to capture IP traffic?

Now that it is difficult to find hubs can I use a splitter to pick up traffic in an IP network with Wireshark?

What do you mean by a splitter?

There are several different techniques for capturing packets in a switched environment, including the use of a SPAN (mirror) port or a TAP to name a couple. Refer to the Wireshark Ethernet capture setup wiki page for more ideas.
