I am new to wireshark and need to become proficient. What is the best path for a beginner and what is an appropriate time frame?

Depends a lot on your budget, learning method and so on.

Wireshark in itself isn't that complicated. You can learn a lot by looking at all the youtube video from Chris Greer.

If you got the budget I would go for https://scos.training

But beside Wireshark it realy is all about understanding the network protocols. So any decent networking training that digs into those protocols will be useful.

Okay, I clearly stole this answer, my apologies. But have a look at the Wireshark and SharkFest websites to find other learning opportunities.

I highly recommend checking out Chris Greer, The Technology Firm, and CellStream on YouTube. It will establish a solid groundwork for comprehending network protocols.

Depends a lot on your budget, learning method and so on.

Wireshark in itself isn't that complicated. You can learn a lot by looking at all the youtube video from Laura Chappel.

If you got the budget I would go for https://www.chappell-university.com/a...

But beside Wireshark it realy is all about understanding the network protocols. So any decent networking training that digs into those protocols will be useful.

You can go for Chris Greer's courses on Pluralsight (If you have the budget) or his courses & sessions on Youtube. David Bombal's Youtube channel ofcourse is also a very good resource.

That's for the theoretical part, the thing about Wireshark is that you have to get your hands dirty so you'll need to actually start taking packet captures & analyzing them according to the knowledge you gained.
