Entry Point Not Found - SystemParametersInfoForDpi

  • retag add tags

I updated Wireshark to the latest recommended version. I chose to uninstall and re-install with an updated version of ncap. Now attempting to open Wireshark I receive the following error message.

The procedure entry point 'SystemParametersInfoForDpi' could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Wireshark\Qt6Gui.dll.

I performed a reboot and then I attempted a wireshark.exe -v but receive the same popup window.

This is installed on Windows Server 2012R2 Standard and recently updated all Windows Security Updates

Still looking around and wondering if Wireshark should be in the system path? Currently it is not. I also checked the registry and found no reference to Qt6Gui.dll in search.

Server 2012r2 is out of mainstream support (as of Oct. 2018!). The wiki LifeCycle page doesn't mention it, but I think that OS is essentially the same as Win 8.1.

Maybe try a 4.0.11 version.

Thanks for the tip - 4.0 was working fine until the upgrade so I will revert to that version. I was surprised about the life cycle. Actually 2012r2 sunsetted Oct 2023. It's an older machine that I use for the time being for small stuff like Wireshark file review.

The extended support (which is $$$ pay for) ran until 2023, mainstream ended 2018. See here.

I hope that using Wireshark to view random captures on an OS that is no longer being patched doesn't come back to bite you.

As per the link you provided and in the first comment i provided, the support for Server 2012R2 lasted until Oct2023 and then the option of ESU - either way - splitting hairs now.

I had to downgrade to V4.0.10 because of a similar issue with minizip.dll missing. This will work for my needs for now until I down the machine in a couple months. Unfortunately lost my links, now I have to recover passwords.....

Thanks for the answer/tips. I'd upvote but not allowed just yet.
