Traffic forwarded to intranet not captured

  • retag add tags

Hi, I´m a newbie to wireshark and need some help. I operate an Ethernet-to-SerPort converter within an intranet. Traffic sent/received between converter and PC within the intranet is captured as expected (I set a filter with the MAC address of the converter and traffic is shown with the corresponding converter-IP and PC-IP). By sending traffic via internet to my router (FritzBoy 7490 with port forwarding, which relays the incoming traffic to the converter-IP, the converter works fine, but no traffic is captured. I would expect traffic to be shown between converter IP and router (Intranet-) IP Any ideas? Regards Werner

Have a look at your capture setup.

In particular, think about how switches, such as your FritzBox, affect the ability to capture traffic when capture machine is on a different switch point than the Ethernet\Serial converter.
