Can wireshark show the source process of an outgoing packet

  • retag add tags

I am monitoring the ethernet connection between my PC and router and I would like to see the source process or app of certain outgoing packets.

I have found several supposed methods of doing this but not of them work. It's like the authors are using a different version of Wireshark to mine. I just don't have the menu options that they are talking about.

I have Version 4.0.4 (v4.0.4-0-gea14d468d9ca), running on Windows 11. I installed all the available options. I am running Wireshark with its default settings.

Do the settings have to be changed to all the display of processes? Is it necessary to install any additional software.

Unfortunately not on Windows.

On Windows, tools such as Process Monitor may help.
