View -> Wireless Tool Bar not showing

  • retag add tags

Hi I'm taking the Cyber and Network Security Bootcamp at Georgia Tech and the wireless tool bar is not showing in the view on my Windows 10 machine. Is there something I can download or do to get it to appear? Thank you.

See this previous question: Where's the wireless toolbar?

There is an open issue (15445: Wireless toolbar is missing) to restore it but only for AirPcap adapters.

(https://code.wireshark.org/review/#/c... - Qt: Add wireless toolbar for AirPcap)

Hi Chuck, I reviewed that issue from 2019 and it appears nothing has been resolved. Also, according to your AirPcap article 'Note that the AirPcap adaptors are no longer being sold by Riverbed, as announced in their End-of-Availability (EOA) Notice on October 2, 2017.' Is there a link to where I can buy a AirPcap Adapter? Also, is it safe to assume that since this is an open issue getting an AirPcacp adapter will not make the wireless tool bar appear in the view for Wireshark?

What's the goal of the lab / exercise?

The one downside of the active development is that training materials and books are often behind the current release.

We were utilizing Aircrack-ng to decrypt a WEP pcap file (that was a headache as well to get to run on windows because couldn't find clear path to install with Windows Powershell so had to utilize GUI). Once you get the decryption THEN since Wireless Tool Bar doesn't show up you have to go Edit -> Preferences -> Protocols -> IEEE 802.11 -> Decryption Keys 'Edit' -> Key type + Key. Trust me there was no clear explanation for all these steps that did not involve utilizing the wireless tool bar.

Protocol Preferences are available from the pop-up menu of the “Packet List” Pane or “Packet Details” Pane

Sample files in Wireshark source tree: wep.pcapng.gz, 80211_keys.tmpl
!655: dot11decrypt: Fix WEP decryption

Awesome. Thank you for the additional information Chuck. I would upvote but I don't have enough points to do that yet!
