3.2.7 error message

  • retag add tags

Greetings,

I recently install 3.2.7 and received an error message when I initiated a capture, see below

The Capture session could not be initiated on the interface \Device\NPF_(780322B7E-4668-42D3-9F37-287EA86C0AAA)' (failed to set hardware filter to promiscuous mode).

Please check to make sure you have sufficient permissions and that you have the proper interface or pipe specified.

I never had an issue with 3.2.6. I rebooted my machine and got the same error. I uninstalled 3.2.7 and reinstalled 3.2.6 and got the same error. Thank you for you time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Rich

As is usually the case, this is likely to be an npcap issue, as that's the 3rd party software installed by Wireshark that actually talks to the hardware. Upgrading to 3.2.7 will install, if you allow it, a newer version of npcap from your previous version that may have caused this issue.

Npcap have subsequently released a newer version (1.00) that may or may not fix this issue, try downloading it directly from their site and installing it. If you still get the issue then report it on the npcap issue tracker.
