Can you paste the contents of Help -> About Wireshark -> Wireshark in a comment here?

I had this when I did NOT RESTART my (Windows) PC as suggested by the installer. After a restart, the interface list was populated. It could also be due to a permission problem, especially if you run Wireshark on Linux. Try to start Wireshark as root (or as Administrator if running on a Windows) to see if the problem persists.

Do NOT, unless you don't value the host you're running on, run Wireshark with elevated privileges. The application consists of hundreds of thousands of lines of code that may react badly when fed malicious traffic.

Wireshark has had, since version 1, privilege separation to allow capturing without having to run Wireshark itself with elevated privileges.
