how does the client request the default web page
im doing this for class how do I do thius

Since you are asking this on a Wireshark Q&A site, you might as well use Wireshark to answer this question :-)
Start up Wireshark, start a capture and then open a browser and make it do a request for the default web page. Then you can see in the packets how it is actually been requested.
