I/O Graph - SMA interval

Hi, I'm using I/O graph tool in Wireshark Version 2.6.6 ad near the coloumn Y Field i see SMA interval. I guess is a sort of sampling or average but can someone explain to me the exact meaning of this option? I can't read anything about on online guides.

Thanks

This is an implementation of Simple Moving Average

It can make graphs looking more smooth and reveal long-term tendencies, but be careful as it may hide critically important details too.

1: no SMA - obvious spikes observed

2: SMA period=20. Spikes are masked.
