hosts file manager

Hi everyone!

Someone may be in the same boots as i am...

Working with different network captures using different hosts file sometimes gets hard to apply the correct hosts file with writing over again and again...

Is there any simple tool what is capable to manage multiple hosts file of different networks and apply it (copy?) to the wireshark directory depending on the choice from eg a drop down list?

Can you share if you use something similar, that is other than copying over manually every time it needs change?

Thanks /Mark

My first reaction was to try to put the hosts file in a profile folder so that it can be switched via profiles, but that doesn't work at the moment. But I talked to the core developers on the development mailing list and we're going to check if that functionality can be added in one of the next releases.

In the meantime you could try to create a batch file for each setting that you run to copy the hosts file you need to the directory. You could even add a "start wireshark.exe" command so that Wireshark starts up automatically after the hosts file was copied.

This works for me and would be my suggestion as well. Do you have name resolution enabled in the various profiles you tried?

Yes, I triple checked it, doesn't work. I learned on the developer mailing list that Roland is rewriting profile handling soon, so I'll make sure it works then :-)
