  • retag add tags

Hi Everyone,

from the first time i installed Wireshark, it was not able to find the ethernet port. I tried to install also the portable version or an older versrion but without effects.

I am working on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

Any suggestion?

The problem is this part:

Running on ... without WinPcap, ...

If you want to be able to capture packets on Windows, you either need to install WinPcap or since WinPcap is no longer supported, it is now recommended to install npcap instead.

When i try to install WinPcap or also npcap, i got this error message from the installer:

"Error opening file for writing: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\npf.sys"

Are you attempting to install it as an administrator (or as a user with administrative privileges) or just as a normal non privileged user?

Tried both ways. Not working also as administrator.

Hmm. This has come up before and it does seem related to permissions. Can you check all permissions as suggested on this old thread: https://www.winpcap.org/pipermail/win...

I checked all permissions needed (writing/creation) for this folder and with my user. Everything is enabled so i should be allowed to make changes in it...

I would like to post a screenshot about it but i am not allowed yet. Maybe could i use an external website?
