How set GUI dimensions/location with "-o prefname:value"

Taken from "%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Wireshark\recent_common", I tried this

wireshark.exe -o gui.geometry_main_x:400

but no effect.

Changing value directly in that file works fine. What am I doing wrong?

The main window geometry parameters are stored in the recent_common file, but currently they can't be set like other options that are stored in the preferences file. You would have to edit the recent_common file itself for the change to take effect.

If you'd like the main window geometry (or other) parameters to be configurable as a Wireshark option, you could file a Wireshark enhancement bug report asking for this to be implemented.
