Is it possible to analyse traffic between a PLC and a frequency converter using Wireshark?
Ive got a Siemens S7 1500 and a Sinamics S120 frequency converter+ CU 310 PN + electric motor all are connected via Ethernet/profinet. The PLC is connected to a Laptop which has only one Ethernet port. I want to analyse the Data traffic between the PLC and FC by using Wireshark, is it possible? How to do it? With a hub i expect that I will only see the traffic in one direction. A switch with port mirror? How to do it?

So how are the devices - the PLC, the frequency converter, the laptop, and the others - connected at the physical layer? Is there a hub or switch involved, or are there just point-to-point connections directly between devices?
@ Guy Harris: point-to-point connections directly between devices. Laptot -> PLC S7 1500 -> S120 frequency converter all via ethernet cables. No hub or switch involved yet, first i need to figure out how to do it before i do the set up.
You said "With a hub i can only see the traffic in one direction." - do you mean "you tried it with a hub and you could see only the traffic in one direction" or "you have some reason to believe that if you try it with a hub you will see only the traffic in one direction, even though you haven't tried it yet"?

Networking is completely new for me i have to read in to the subject asap. I asked this question because it it is the next task i´ve got on the line.
So it appears from Siemens' documentation for S7-1500 communications processors that there is a "communication module for connection to PROFINET" and a "communication processor [that] securely connects SIMATIC S7-1500 to Ethernet". Given that PROFINET runs atop industrial Ethernet, they both presumably have regular Ethernet RJ-45 ports; the first has two with an integrated switch, the second has only one.
Do you have the first of those communications processors, with the laptop plugged into one of the RJ-45 ports and the frequency converter plugged into the other one, or do you have two of them, with the laptop plugged into one and the frequency converted plugged into another, or do you have some other setup?
