Why can't Wireshark see packets on Ethernet adapter?
I have Windows 10.
I have three network adapters listed:
- Ethernet
- Ethernet 2
- Wifi
I disable the wifi and the ethernet 2 adapters and enable 'ethernet' and Wireshark sees it as a working adapter I think, because it shows it on the list of available adapters and it shows a wavy line on it, too - doesn't that mean it has detected traffic?
So I ask it to capture packets. It neither sees nor captures any.
Works fine with the wifi when I enable it.
But sees nothing on the ethernet adapters.
What's wrong?

What capture engine do you have installed? WinPcap ro the newer NPcap? Also Firewall and other types of network related software installed may cause issues.
ncap I think. I only installed wireshark a couple of hours ago and I let it do what it suggested - and I think it was ncap.
And I think my problem has gone away, maybe. I might have just been too hasty. I kept trying, Alternately disabling this adapter and enabling the other, then swap and so on. On the last attempt I suddenly saw an ARP.
I have been trying to find the IP of a camera and with no other adapter available and no gateway, no dns servers, the computer completely cut off, I expected some traffic from the computer and I hoped for traffic from the camera. Over that adapter.
Perhaps I didn't wait long enough. I only looked at the blank screen for a minute or two, at a guess, that'd seem like an eternity when you're looking for packets, wouldn't it ... (more)
