Invalid key entry in WPA-PSK/WPA-PWD

  • retag add tags

HI All, Apologies if question is too simple. I am unable to add decryption keys in wireshark version 2.6.1 on mac os WPA and WEP decryption keys option on IEEE 802.11 to decrypt the monitor mode traffic. It always says invalid key format. I tried with selecting WPA-PWD option and key as passphrase:SSID also with WPA-PSK as the passphrase i generated from wireshark key generation tool. Can you please help me what exactly is the format to be entered? I tried searching in google and doing the same steps but doesnt see like working. For example my SSID is: T3804 Passphrase: messi@10

Is the password character '@' is the problem? Please let me know

Did you try the samples? There are other reasons no decryption can occur, so rule out the basics.

Yes i tried those. Actually the options screen has also changed from the one in article and it is not taking the same format in the newer version. i tried with both as below on key field: wpa-pwd:mypassword:myssid wpa-psk:passhphrase

the passphrase i generated using the wireshark online tool using the ssid and password but still not working. Not sure what is the miss.

The key entry dialog, or at least the validity indication, is less than optimal. There is nothing wrong with your entry, the indication is just not updated. As long as you can click OK (after pressing enter to confirm your key entry) you're fine.

So, open the Decryption keys dialog, click +, select Key type wpa-pwd, click on the key data field, enter messi@10:T3804 and press enter. Then click OK and you're done.
