Win 11 2H'23 update breaks USB-Serial for Renesas win64-3.4.7-6

  • retag add tags

using latest windows 11, Wireshark stopped working this Jan 2024!. Tried rolling back, and also 1.78,1.75,1.74 doesn't help. using Win 11 Home, 10.0.22621 Build 22621 tried a brand new laptop, which happens to have the same win 11 build. no software whatsoever apart from this wireshark install, and same, it does not see USB serial (Silicon Labs CP210x) - which does show up in device manager, and i can use the port for serial transfer (even upto 1MBAUD) so the port and driver works fine. Just wireshark cannot see it.

I think i may of found a work-around. I copied the extcap folder from the Renesas edition into the latest wireshark 4.2.2 standard version, and i now see the extcap interface listed in the 'Capture' list. So assume its the problem that the packaged version from Renesas (3.4.7) is not compatible with Win11 2H23 either way, the good news is that the extcap built for 3.4.7 is working with 4.2.2, and Npcap 1.78, USBPcap 1.5.4.0
