How do I find my SIP call to my cell phone over VPN? Not listed under Telephony > VoIP calls

  • retag add tags

Apologies, but I'm just starting to teach myself SIP and Wireshark. Using my Skype for Business client on my work laptop over VPN, I started a capture, then called my cell phone from my SfB client. I put the call on hold (to provide interesting traffic), then hung up and stopped the capture.

When I go to Telephony > VoIP calls, nothing is listed. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for any tips/advice!

'Over VPN' raises a number of red flags, one is that it often interferes with network captures by itself, second a VPN is used to encapsulate traffic and encrypt it for transport.

Another red flag is that I'm not sure at all that SfB uses SIP between the PC and the server.

So better to start with some softphone which is known to be a SIP one and a corresponding service (own Asterisk if nothing else is available).
