Importing data with regular expression

  • retag add tags

I see in the docs a section about importing data using regular expressions (https://www.wireshark.org/docs/wsug_h...). However, I do not see that tab in Wireshark 3.4.4 (my linux installation) or 3.4.9 (my Windows installation). Am I missing a plugin or setting to enable this feature?

2136: Ui: Regex based textfile / hexdump importing
The change has not been pulled back into the 3.4.x branches.

For Windows choices are:
3.5.0 Development Release from the Download page
3.6.x or 3.7.x from the Automated builds "Live on the Bleeding Edge"
An official 3.6.0 release is due out next week (3.6.0 October 20, 2021 First release of the 3.6 branch)

For linux, it's "not too difficult" (YMMV) to download the source and build the latest version.

(Note: The Wireshark User’s Guide tracks the development version (3.6.0) so may contain information that is not yet in the production version of Wireshark)

It would be nice if the User's Guide, Developer's Guide, and all man pages were available for all released versions of Wireshark. As it is now, The current User's Guide pertains to the upcoming 3.6.0 release, but the man pages pertain to 3.4.9. This should at least be consistent.

As a point of reference, tcpdump has recently begun to host man pages for all their released versions, that in response to Issue 927, which I raised.
