unable to capture HTTP/HTTPS packet in the same network (wired and WIFI)

  • retag add tags

I am a Wireshark newbie. I installed Wireshark in my host machine, and try to capture the traffic in the host machine, and also another machine in the same network (wired and WIFI). The "promiscuous" checkbox is enabled already.

However, I am unable to capture HTTP and HTTPS traffic from my host machine by visiting sites in the web browser. I see other non HTTP traffic on my host machine. Also, I don't see any traffic from another machine. Any ideas what I did wrong in my settings?

Please advise. Really appreciate your help. Thank you!!

Did you install the PCAP module and is it allowed to capture traffic? Are you on the right interface? (Interfaces names can be extremely messy in Windows.)

Presumably you meant "npcap" as that's the capture library on Windows. The usual resources for folks new to capturing are the Wiki pages Capture Setup, Ethernet Capture noting the issues on a switched network and WLAN Capture noting the issues with Windows drivers.
