Wireshark unresponsive on windows server 2012 r2

I am trying to run wireshark on a virtual machine running windows server 2012 r2. When I startup wireshark it becomes unresponsive. It seems like it gets stuck on the finding local interfaces.

Wireshark version? You may want to try temporarily renaming the extcap directory in the Wireshark installation, normally C:\Program Files\Wireshark\extcap to eliminate any issue with the pseudo interfaces there.

Tried renaming the extcap directory and its still not responding

Clutching at another straw, npcap released a newer version after Wireshark 3.2.7 was released, try installing the latest npcap from their site.
