winflexbison installer has malware?

Hello all,

We are trying to setup windows based wireshark development environment and that requires us to install winflexbison. We requested our IT team to download this installer/zip and they use some tools to detects malware etc. They seem to find that this installer has malware in it.

It is really surprising that such a large community is working on wireshark installing winflexbison and IT detects malware.

Can someone help in clarifying this?

Thanks, Amit

It could also be a false positive, it sometime happens.

Thank you for your observation, you should note that the Wireshark project does not supply winflexbison, that is an external resource provided by the winflexbison project over at https://sourceforge.net/projects/winf....

As you didn't indicate which package you used, I downloaded the latest zip and submitted it, and the 2 executables in it, to VirusTotal which checks the files using 73 different AV engines and 2 engines reported issues with the executables, but 71 didn't, so as Jaap stated, this is likely to be a false positive.
