Baby steps: capturing printer packets issued by Notepad

Home network: Router + 3 WiFi devices (2 laptops, 1 printer) So far, I've set up communications between the laptops using Telnet server/client and captured + identified the Telnet being carried as a TCP payload.

Next move: Leave Telnet, open Notepad (on the host running Wireshark) and print ‘Hello World’ to the printer. It prints but can’t seem to find associated packets (or a payload that might be in an encrypted form)

Question: In broad terms, how would Notepad send data to the printer – or, if I’m about to disappear down a rabbit hole, maybe I’ll make that next move: set up FTP between laptops…

The best way forward here is to interrogate the WiFi router for the IP address of the printer (assuming it's using IP connectivity for printing purposes), because that is most likely the one who assigned the IP address to it. Another way is to dig into your printer settings, which will also have the target printer IP address somewhere. Then when you capture packets, filter on that address and issue your print job.
