Where is the ASCII representation in Wireshark 3.0.x

Since I installed Wireshark 3.0.x, my packet bytes pane no longer shows the ASCII to the right of the bytes. How do I fix this? I have uninstalled Wireshark and drivers and reinstalled with no luck. Not getting ASCII text in my Packet Bytes Pane, just the bytes themselves.

Which particular versions are you seeing this with - 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, or more than one of them?

What operating system are you running on your machine?

I hate to ask, but is it possible that the ASCII is scrolled off-screen to the right and you just need to drag the vertical separator between the packet details and packet bytes and move it to the left so that the ASCII is displayed?

If that's not it, then maybe try "turning it off and on again", and by this I mean maybe you can go to Edit -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Layout and select the 1st layout and hit OK, and then go back and do that again, but this time select the 2nd layout, which seems to be the layout you want. Possibly this will fix the problem?

@Guy Harris, I am using version 3.02, but this started when I upgraded to version 3.0. I am running windows 10 Pro, build 1903. I am only running a single version, but like I said above it has done this since version 3.0.

@cmaynard, I have 4 monitors I put the left side to the left most monitor and spread it across all 4 and saw no divider, Adjusting the Layout Preferences did not work either. I went through the Advanced Preferences and found nothing interesting either.

Can you try moving/deleting your entire Wireshark personal configuration folder contents and then launching Wireshark from scratch in a more pristine state? Perhaps there are old preferences/files that are somehow causing a problem. The personal configuration folder can be found via Help -> About Wireshark -> Personal configuration. On Windows, it's typically in %APPDATA%\Wireshark. If this doesn't help, then you can always move the files back if you decided to save them elsewhere instead of deleting them.

Great! If you feel up to it, it would be interesting to try to isolate the root cause, i.e., to determine which file or which preference caused this problem so perhaps it can be mitigated so others don't encounter this problem too.

@cmaynard as it turns out it is related to the font being used and which monitor I put Wireshark on. It works fine with the standard font (System Default) Consolas 10.0 on my laptop display, but if I move it to one of the monitors (VE248 ASUS) i lose the ascii packet bytes. I can modify the font and it shows up on the monitors and laptop. I need to find a fixed width font that will work on everything now.

This seems like it may be the same problem as reported earlier at: https://ask.wireshark.org/question/95.... If so, then Bug 15819 has already been filed for this issue.
