problem clears while Wireshark is running

Hello, I have a voice server that has very choppy and garbled audio. I can call in and it sounds terrible, as soon as I start a pcap it clears up and sounds great. When I stop the capture it sounds terrible again. What is happening while the pcap is running that clears the issue?

Thanks!

What version of what operating system does the machine on which you're running Wireshark use? Are you running Wireshark on the server or the client?

And have you made the capture with promiscuous mode on and off, to gauge what influence that has?

Hi Guy, The server is running 2012 R2. I'm running Wirehark on the server though today I'm going to mirror the port and run it on the mirrored port.

Hi Jaap, promiscuous mode on or off did not make a difference. the problem clears in either mode and resumes as soon as I stop the capture.

I'm seeing a lot of jitter and underruns when not running the pcap and hardly any when I am running the pcap.
